We have had many things going on over the past two weeks while the kids have been off track. When I last wrote I ended with our staying up late celebrating the 4th of July watching fireworks. The next morning we were up way earlier than we wanted to be, Ryan heading off to work and Andrew heading off to Webelos day camp. Andrew had a fun time at day camp both Wednesday and Thursday. Then Thursday afternoon Andrew hitched a ride with his uncle Eric up to Porterville (near Morgan Utah) for a big Hunt family reunion. I spent the day Friday preparing a large pot of sloppy joe and a jello salad for the reunion. I headed up with the rest of the kids that afternoon. Ryan was off a little early that day but needed to sleep for a couple hours before he headed up to the reunion with Emily and Nate Heward. The kids and I stopped in Morgan to visit some friends before heading into the camp a few miles down the road. We were greeted by relatives and informed that Andrew had caught the second largest fish so far, measuring 11 inches (first place was 14 inches). We had a fun time visiting and eating dinner, then enjoyed a long talent show while the kids did some crafts. We won one of the quilts they were raffling off, so that was pretty exciting. The kids had a fun time playing with cousins and wanted to spend the night, but Ryan and I were ready to get back home. We made it home late and luckily didn't need to be up early the next morning.
Thanks to JennyLyn and Brent coming down to watch the kids, we were able to go to the temple that Saturday night and go through a session. It has been quite a while since we have been able to attend the temple together, so we really enjoyed that date. The kids really enjoyed "playing" with Jenny and Brent as well.
After several treatments with the chiropractor Ryan had still not gotten relief from his carpal tunnel and it was continuing to worsen. After a miserable weekend he had me call the surgeon on Monday (July 10th) and schedule surgery as soon as possible, which turned out to be that Friday, July 14th.
Friday morning we were up early so I could cut Ryan's hair and he could shave and shower before his surgery. I dropped him off at LDS Hospital at 9:15 AM with the plan to come back after the surgery, around 1:30 while he was in recovery. From there I went home, cut my hair much shorter, showered, fed the baby and then headed back up to the hospital with Alexia. At the hospital we found out that his surgery had been postponed two hours so he was still in there. Since it would be at least another hour-and-a-half until he would be finished, we decided to run a couple errands. We made it back around 2:50 which was just after the surgery ended but before he was in the recovery area so we had to spend about a half hour in the surgery waiting area, luckily they had yummy snacks and juice in there. The surgery went well and though it seemed to take a while for Ryan to really come out of the anesthesia, by the time he left the hospital he was SOOOOOO ready to go he insisted on walking out and wouldn't ride in the wheelchair. With both wrists in splints and unable to get wet, he needed quite a lot of help his first couple of days home. On Saturday JennyLyn came down and took the kids swimming and out to dinner since they each had a card for a free kids meal at Applebee's. It was definitely fun for the kids and it was very helpful for us as well.
On Monday Ryan had his follow-up appointment with the surgeon and his splints were removed. Now he only has some bandages to wear along with his removable splints. He will go back in two weeks to have the stitches removed and will be off work until then. Right now he mostly just has difficulty opening lids or door knobs and it hurts his hand/wrist if he grabs things too hard or tries to pick up heavy items. It has been helpful to have him here to help keep the kids busy and occupied so I can get my work done in the afternoon.
The kids will be starting back to school next Wednesday, July 26th, with Alexia in first grade, Ashley in second grade and Andrew in sixth grade. Austyn and Adalyn will be home with me until Austyn's preschool starts in September.
That's all for now. Julie
