We have had quite a roller coaster of weather this past few weeks. After our 80s we dropped down into the 50s for several days with rain and wind. Ryan even had a day off because the wind and rain were so bad. Andrew's football game on 9/16 was played despite the mud, rain, sleet and very cold temperatures. The girls spent most of the game in the car trying to keep warm. I think Andrew's team may have won that game, although they have lost the two games since then. Andrew doesn't let it get him down, he likes to play. Our weather was back up into the 70s again this past week and even in the lower 80s for the weekend. Today we got a nice change with some wind and rain and the temperature will probably only hit 70.
After a couple years of talking about it, we finally signed the girls up for a dance class this past month. They are SOOOOOO excited!! The classes are offered at the recreation center just around the block from our house, so it is quite convenient. They didn't have too many sign up for the different age groups, so Ashley and Alexia are in the same class (which is fine for now as they are both just learning the basics.) There is only one other girl in their dance class, so with just the three of them the teacher is able to take more time to explain and help each of them.
For Ryan's birthday we were able to go out two nights in a row! Em & Nate came over and stayed with the kids Friday evening and Ryan's parents came over for Saturday evening. The first night we went out to dinner, then picked up a movie to watch at home. The second night we did more little errands and window shopping that is usually not convenient to do with the kids. It was really fun just spending time together without interruptions.
We are looking forward to seeing the play that Jenny & Brent are in this fall The Scarlet Pimpernel. We had thought about going to see it on opening night 9/22, but instead decided we will go on 10/13 with Mary & Frank. The kids will be having a sleep-over party at Em & Nate's that evening, so we only had to find a sitter for Adalyn.
The circus came to town this past week and I was able to get three free tickets to opening night. Since Ryan didn't want to be out all evening when he had to work early the next morning, I took the kids to the circus and he stayed home with the baby. Andrew had to miss out this time because of football, so we brought Uncle Clayton along for the show. Apparently this was the first circus Clayton has ever been to. It was fun for everyone. Since we had the three free tickets we only had to purchase two additional seats, so we were able to get much better seats than we have in the past.
Thursday I was ready for a break. After three days with the kids and all their friends around, and Wednesday's late night, I was needing a mellow day to catch up on things. The kids have been pretty good about getting their cleaning jobs done in the morning so they can play in the afternoon, so we have had most of the neighborhood over here every afternoon (up to 8 extra kids!) The girls were fine just playing a few games together, painting, coloring and dress-up. Austyn played computer games for awhile, then also painted and colored with the girls. Andrew got his jobs and his practicing done and went to play at the neighbor's house. It was a pretty peaceful day.
Friday was a busy day. We started out shopping in the morning for a birthday present for an afternoon party. We found a present, had lunch, then drove Austyn to West Jordan for our cousin Trevor's birthday party at 2:00. We then had to get the girls back here for their dance class at 2:30. After dropping them off I made sure Andrew was ready for scouts at 3:00, then sat down and fed the baby. We picked up the girls from dance at 3:30 then headed back to pick up Austyn at 4:00. We visited for a little bit before heading back home for dinner. Needless to say I did not get my work done that day, so I spent Saturday morning trying to get it finished up.
After finishing my work Saturday morning I met Ryan and the kids at Andrew's football game. After the game we went down to Mary & Frank's house for dinner and visiting while the boys went to the priesthood session of general conference. We were home by 10:00 and the kids went right to bed.
Sunday we watched and listened to general conference here at the house. That evening we went to Ryan's parents' place for dinner and cake & ice cream to celebrate Kelsi's and Ryan's birthdays. Andrew and Ashley stayed there that night planning to help with weeding the next morning.
On Monday things seemed to start out pretty slow without Andrew and Ashley around, which was fine with me. Austyn and Alexia remained fairly quiet and even watched a movie before breakfast. I worked on my work along with various organizing/cleaning projects around the house. I added another shelf to our hall closet to get better use of space, and cleaned out a lot of miscellaneous that we don't use and don't need. After cleaning up the kitchen and starting the dishwasher I worked on laundry for awhile, sorting and folding the clean clothes and washing the dirty ones. Adalyn was up keeping me company for most of the time after the kids were in bed, then she finally went down to bed around 10:00.
Today is Tuesday and I am up earlier than usual (not counting Adalyn's 5 AM feeding) so I thought I should finish up this update on things around here. My goals for today include getting Austyn to preschool, taking a shower, getting my work done, sorting through the piles of papers on my desk, giving Austyn a haircut, more laundry and making sure all the kids help out! We'll see how it goes :-)
