Friday the 13th

Looking at the calendar, it all makes sense to me now. Yesterday was Friday the 13th! No wonder EVERYTHING was going crazy around here.

After trying, somewhat unsuccessfully, to work all day, I took a break and thought I would update my blog layout. I've seen so many fun layouts as I have been reading everyone else's blogs, so I thought I was ready for an update. Unfortunately, as I was browsing templates in Pyzam.com, I somehow picked up a virus. These guys are getting pretty good these days. I didn't even download anything! I noticed pretty quickly that things were not running smoothly, in fact down right slow, so I tried to restart my computer. The virus, however, had disabled my "task manager," so I couldn't even restart with ctrl-alt-delete. I quickly turned off my computer manually and restarted it that way. I skipped the "scandisk" trying to get into windows to do an immediate system restore. My desktop had changed and had a new backdrop that said "Several fatal errors have occurred . . . . spyware has been detected on your system . . . . . click here to search your system for spyware." YEAH RIGHT!!! I'm not stupid, I was not going to "click" and give that virus a chance to Totally destroy my hard drive. I quickly went to "system restore." Like I said, this virus was a good one, in my list of "restore points" there was a choice that said "Last good configuration point," which just happened to be at 6:39 pm, which just happened to be when I picked up the virus. Soooooo, I didn't pick that one. I restored my computer to a safe point from the previous day. Things were running much more smoothly after that, but I then installed my virus scanner to make sure I got EVERYTHING out. Unfortunately, as the virus scan took several hours, I wasn't able to work the rest of the day. Fortunately, however, the scan detected and removed 13 infected files. So, I'm pretty sure we're safe now.

To add to the "bad luck" of this Friday the 13th, This is what I found after Adalyn had taken a short nap in our room. (The pictures aren't the greatest as I just took a couple quick shots with my cell-phone camera.)
I first discovered all these square, black things with letters on them. What in the world could that be all over the floor?? My question was immediately answered when I looked up on the desk and saw this . . . . . the laptop computer, missing ALL of the keys. I am sure glad Ryan wasn't home at the time, he would have FREAKED OUT. I stayed amazingly calm, probably because I was not surprised at One More Thing to add to my depressing day :-(
Thankfully, I was able to put it all back together and nothing was "broken" :-)
Though, it did take me a little while to make sure I got all the keys back in the right place. I first put the numbers on, but ended up having them "off" by one, because I had assumed the (~`) key was before the (!1) key, but apparently this is not the case on our laptop keyboard.

Hopefully Saturday the 14th will be a much better day. :-)

Sorry about your day. I didn't believe in Friday the 14th superstitions before, but now I'm wondering....

P.S. Your naked keyboard gave me a good belly laugh!
