Weekend Getaway

Ryan and I finally got a weekend away over Labor Day. We decided to go camping, since it's been about 13 years since we've gone by ourselves. We found a nice spot right next to the creek up North Willow canyon in the Stansbury Mountains. We actually staked out our spot Friday with Addie and my brother Jonny, so we could put up our tent and save the spot for Saturday afternoon. It's a rather undeveloped canyon, though we were near the top of the loop where there was an outhouse, so that was "nice." Ryan's mom came to stay with the kids and we left soon after Andrew's football game. We were both pretty tired by the time we made it up there, so a nap was in order. After our nap we went for a walk around the area. There were quite a few people riding 4-wheelers and motorcycles around our camp site, but we were far enough away from the road that we didn't get any of the dust. We found enough wood to make a fire and roasted marshmallows after dinner. Then we watched a couple movies in our tent and went to bed.

The next morning we had donuts and fruit for breakfast and took down our camp. From the mountains we headed to the desert. I had never been to the sand dunes and wanted to have a look. We didn't plan to camp there as we figured it would be way to crowded this holiday weekend, and way too hot! So we just stopped long enough to climb a hill and look out over the dunes. It's actually kind of cool, we'll have to take the kids there sometime. Probably not in the summer ;)

After the dunes we headed another 50 miles to Delta and stayed with our friends there for the night. We had an enjoyable visit with them and also made a trip to the lake down that way. Monday we made our way home by early afternoon and spent the rest of the holiday with the kids, though I had to work that evening:( It was a fun weekend and nice to get away.
Now we're back to work with school and football pretty much every day of the week. Austyn had a good day at practice yesterday, so hopefully he will be more enthused about his upcoming game this weekend!

Tonight the kids are going to Em & Nate's for their cousins sleepover. I think Addie will be fine to go this year and actually spend the night, so I'll have the house almost all to myself. Andrew won't be able to go to the sleepover because of football, but he also has a youth activity to go to after that, so he'll be out late. Ryan is working. I'll have to work too, but hopefully I can get it done quickly without all the distractions.

Not too much planned for this upcoming week, I'll just have to remember that Monday is a late start day so the kids don't have to be to school until 10:00 a.m. At least that should be easier to remember than early out Wednesdays:)

I'm glad you guys were able to get away! It sounds like it was well deserved! :)
It was fun reading all about what your family has been up to! And Austyn looked so adorable in his football uniform! 15 was Jared's number (all through high school), too! :)
Btw, thanks for the comment on my blog! That was really sweet of you! I keep saying it, but I really think it would be fun for all of us girls to have a girls night one of these days! Now if we could just plan a time.... :)
